  • Official Language in Hungary
    Hungarian, however English and German are widely spoken.
  • Time in Hungary
    Central European Time (GMT + 1). Daylight saving between the end of March and the end of October: Central European time +1 (GMT+2)
  • Climate in Hungary
    Hungary's climate is continental usually with beautiful long warm summer, cold snowy winter, wet spring and colorful mild autumn. The average yearly temperature is 8-12 C. On some very chilly winter days temperature can decrease 10-15 C below zero, especially in the Mountains, while in mid summer, temperatures around 30-35 C during the day are not unusual.

    54.5% Roman Catholic, 21% Reformed (Calvinist) Protestant, 6% Evangelical (Lutheran), 18.5% other
  • Electricity Voltage in Hungary

  • Hungarian Laws and Customs
    Carry your passport/identity card at all times. You must be able to show some form of identity if requested, by the police for instance. A photocopy is not acceptable. Hungarian laws on the possession and use of drugs are strict, it is zero tolerance drinking alcohol whilst driving, even one sip can get you into a lot of trouble.
  • Hungarian Currency
    The Hungarian currency is the Forint (HUF) Cash-points are widespread and credit cards are accepted in most hotels, shops and restaurants. There are foreign exchange facilities in banks, foreign exchange bureaux, travel agencies and hotels.
  • Hungarian Shopping Hours
    Shops are generally open Monday-Friday between 10.00 and 18.00 and Saturday from 09.00 to 13.00 (although shopping centres and hypermarkets have longer opening hours and they are open on Sundays, as well. Market halls may open and close earlier. Museums and galleries are generally open Tuesday-Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00 during high season (hours may be shorter in other months).
